We're up to March and are still getting snow. Who else is tired of getting these storms? Grab the shovels though because another one's coming today and especially tonight. It may have been in the upper 30's today, sadly the warmest in the past week, but a cold front will be moving through dropping it back into the 20's all-the-while giving us another batch of fresh snow. Joy.
The good news is though, if you look at the model above (can click to enlarge) the bulk of the storm will be to our south. Just Thursday the models were still saying that the center would be passing straight through us which would have meant 8-12" of snow and a possible wintry mix, but because of the high pressure to the north pushing it down more, and the lack of a block in the Atlantic (for once there's nothing there) we'll only be getting 3-6" across the NY Metro area, possibly 7" locally in Long Island. The way the storm is moving, the south half of the island should get .5-1" more than the North which isn't too bad. CT will see only 1-3", NJ and Westchester 2-5", etc. Just follow the map.
If you're wondering where this storm came from, just scroll down a bit and you'll see the picture of the giant system that formed just off the coast of California on 2/27. It's actually created quite a few records (the bad ones) of the coldest days on record for the end of February and the beginning of March. Just last night much of the eastern seaboard (including Long Island) had record lows.
Speaking of temps, we'll have to wait til Thursday to see at or almost 32° again, with Friday being in the upper 30's. Here's to more snow not melting until then *clink*.
