The next couple of days will be filled with rain, buckets worth of it. You can thank the persistent low pressure system that will stall past the Great Lakes and continue to send wave after wave of precip towards the NY metro area from today until Thursday afternoon. As always, click to enlarge the pics.
That's the current map, here's the system on Wednesday night during some of the heaviest precip along with the chances of thunderstorms. The second pic has the forecasted precip amounts:
Totals for the NY metro area could be 3-4" with 5" locally, especially in areas of thunderstorms. As far as a breakdown of how much rain per day/night:
Tuesday: .10-.20"
Tues. Night: .40-.70"
Wednesday: .75-1.25"
Wed. Night: 1.5-2"
Thursday: .20-.40"
It's likely that with the over-saturation of the ground, by Wednesday night there could be local flooding especially in low-lying areas, so get your sump pumps ready and prepare to see a deluge. At least Friday will greet us with some sunshine.
