Sowstorm will hit Midwest Monday...head east followed by Frigid weather for much of the Nation come mid next week. You can see arctic air plunging through Plains..and it's just the tip of the iceberg as an even colder air mass will grip the Eastern half of the Nation before the month comes to an end. Monster Winter Storm & Cold Wave for East!

GFS model for Sunday afternoon. Blue = snow..purple = ice, yellow and orange = heavy rain.  Storm and arctic cold front will really belt the east. 
Northeast gets hit hard...inland areas up to 2 feet of snow and ice. Coastal areas...everything...including heavy flooding rains and winds over gale force. All of this followed by flash freezing as temps fall sharply Sunday into Sunday night. Monday will be sunny but unseasonably cold and windy. Lunar eclipse for Northeast Sunday nite - 10:30 p.m.  Below - today's risk of severe weather...followed by snowfall projections and rainfall into Wednesday.

Above - satellite , radar shows storm no. 1 moving into Mississippi Valley. It will bring 1-3" of snow from Ohio Valley into Northeast. Rain further south. Storm no. 2- west coast - will be the monster storm that will head east this weekend to bring snow to Midwest only to intensify and bring even more snow and ice to Northeast Sunday. Satellite + radar shows disturbance # 1 moving out of Rockies and will bring light snow to Northeast by Friday.  Storm # 2 just off West Coast should be a blockbuster as it moves across The Nation this weekend.
Chicago could see over 6" of snow....but from the No. Appalachians to  New England - they will be measuring in feet. Big Cities along I 95 from Boston to Phily will see everything including flash freezing which will make travel hazardous on Sunday.  Below - expected snowfall and rainfall through Monday.

Another system in Pacific will be a bigger storm over holiday weekend that will be very disruptive. Snow....north of the 2nd storm will be totaling over 1 ft. Above...satellite + radar shows the storm that dumped snow in the Mid Atlantic is moving out to sea. A new storm in California will come across the Nation is 2 pieces. First...arrives on East Coast Friday....second...a bigger storm..late Weekend for Eastern sections. Track of that 2nd storms still "ify" but looks like ice and snow to the north of track - rain to south. By Monday...next week..the floodgates to the arctic open up. Below - expected snowfall through Friday..and expected rainfall thru end of week.

It will head east and bring a swath of snow to Ohio Valley - 2"-4"....and then across the Mid Atlantic...with similar amounts of Washington DC on east.
