Mike Rattray was born and raised in Maryland. He got his first glimpse of the awesome power of weather phenomena in 1972 when he saw the neighboring historic town of Ellicott City submerged by Tropical Storm Agnes. In his first year of college in the mountains of western Maryland he recalls hearing a forecaster on the radio say, "Good morning, your temperature outside now is twelve degrees and will be going down to four degrees this afternoon." "Well that's messed up," he thought. He soon left those mountains and has kept a wary eye on the weather ever since. Mike received his meteorology degree from Stony Brook University and is a staff meteorologist and broadcaster at Metro Weather. His hobbies include kayaking, hiking, and most other outdoorsy stuff.
