Glacial cold and wind......

1/6/2014

The well publicized and predicted cold wave continues to the East Coast.
Many places today will experience a rain or snowsquall and flash freezing as temps. drop like a rocket. The big negative here besides the temperatures...
wind.....wind chills will be low and dangerous and in many places being outside in this wind and cold for more than 15 minutes could result in frostbite. Below is the satellite showing the cold front near Pittsburgh, Pa. Below that chart
is the jet stream...and those number depict the wind speeds at about 18,000 ft.....the reason why cold air is being pulled down into the U.S.

Maps below show current temperatures...followed by the change in
the last 24 hours. The red indicates warming...blue indicates dropping.
Good news is that following this outbreak...the pattern will change and fronts will begin to move thru the West....allowing the East to warm up and mid section of the nation to moderate. So a brutal start to the week...but it should end up a lot better. For now...stay warm..and remember to check on the elderly. Later.
